Hanover Primary School, Islington

Our proposal is to take children camping, in quite basic physical conditions. We will not have access to modern conveniences. We will sleep in tents and in shelters that we build; we will prepare and cook our own food on fires; we will build a distinct and self-reliant community, living in ways that are radically different from our normal lives. The key curriculum area that our residential programme will contribute to is PSE - the personal, social and emotional aspects of learning.

In particular, we will focus on community cohesion, aiming to develop long-term skills in understanding others, expressing ourselves and valuing community involvement.

We will also focus on particular children with emotional and behavioural difficulties, using the residential as an opportunity to gain a deeper understanding of their needs and develop our practice in addressing them. We plan to develop the model across the wider sector.
