Research and evaluation

Through our Special Initiatives and Open Grants, we develop large bodies of work that we seek to evaluate in order to learn about what types of activity are most effective in delivering positive change, whether to individuals and communities, organisations, or to professional sectors or society as a whole.

As part of some Special Initiatives, we also commission research into areas we are particularly concerned about. This research may provide useful new insights into an unexplored area of public need, and may influence our own future activity - whether through Open Grants or Special Initiatives - or that of others.

We seek to share all of our findings as widely as possible. We believe that policy-makers, other grant-making organisations, funded organisations and practitioners may all benefit from sharing in what we are finding out.

As well as distributing hard copies of our reports to selected partners, we make all of our published material available for viewing and free download through this website. Updates on our activities are available through our newsletters.

Information on our research and evaluation work can be found in the 'Findings' section of each of the main programme pages on this website (accessed via the bar at the top of each page), and reports are available to read or download in the Publications section.
